Each year, we use over 2 billion tonnes of asphalt materials – relying on carbon- and energy-intensive fossil oil-based bitumen binders to repair and maintain this vast global network at enormous economic and environmental cost.

Over its service life, the global road network is estimated to emit a staggering amount of CO2e – comparable to the planet’s entire annual emissions, currently around 57 gigatonnes according to the IPCC.

With infrastructure demands growing and climate targets tightening, the need for a scalable, sustainable alternative to bitumen has never been more urgent.
